- Dry Ingredients :
- 3/4 cup All-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup Dark Cocoa powder
- 3/4 tsp Baking powder
- 1/2 tsp Baking soda
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- Wet Mixture :
- 2 Eggs, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup Brown sugar
- 1/3 cup Vegetable oil
- 2 tsp Vanilla essence
- 1/2 cup Buttermilk
- For Frosting :
- 1 1/2 cup Whipping Cream
- 1 tbsp Dark Cocoa powder
- 3 tbsp Powder sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla essence
Instructions to make to make Dark Chocolate Cake
- Preheat the oven at 180 degree C. Grease cake tin with oil and line with baking paper. Using dark brown Cocoa powder for dark chocolate Cale recipe.


- In a large bowl, sieve all-purpose flour, dark cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt to remove any lumps. Whisk until everything is combined well.



- In another bowl take sugar, brown sugar, eggs, oil, vanilla essence and mix everything well. Take buttermilk separately.


- Add half wet mixture and half buttermilk to dry ingredients. Gently whisk for few seconds. Add in remaining wet mixture and buttermilk. Stir until combined. Do not over mix.



- Pour the batter into baking tin until half full to avoid spilling as cake will rise while baking. (I used 6 inch cake tin and made 4 cupcakes too). Tap the pan to remove air bubbles. Bake in pre-heated oven at 180 deg C for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

- Meanwhile whip the cream along with powder sugar and vanilla essnce until stiff peaks are formed. Remove 1/3rd portion of whipped cream for vanilla frosting. Add 1 tbsp dark cocoa powder to 2/3rd portion of whipped cream for chocolate frosting. Refrigerate whipped creams until ready to use.


- Place the cake tin on wire rack and allow it cool for 10- minutes. Loosen the edges with a knife. Place a inverted plate on the tin and then invert the plate along with tin and tap the tin.



- Take out the tin and baking paper. Carefully place the cake on wire rack and let it cool down completely. Frost the cakes only after it is completely cooled down.


- I repeated the same recipe to make another 6 inch cake and 4 cup cakes.
- Spread frosting on cake board or cake stand. Place the cake in the center and spread chocolate frosting evenly.



- Place another cake and frost on top and on the sides. Smoothen the top and sides as well. Fill vanilla frosting in piping bag and decorate the cake. Frost the cupcakes too. I used both vanilla and chocolate frosting for cupcakes. Used some sprinkles too.


- Slice, plate and relish Dark Chocolate Cake with family and friends.
